The last interview he did seems to garner sympathy from a lot of people, especially women. It's strange because he wasn't a victim of society so to speak, a middle class child from a relatively good upbringing who just became completely obsessed with killing. His alcoholism was an obvious catalyst that pushed him to carry out his violent fantasies. I think he hated himself and what he did which was one of the reasons he didn't resist when he was bludgeoned to death, in his own mind he probably accepted it as punishment. It was a sad end to his life, almost pointless as I don't think he was a danger to anyone anymore.
