Is it normal that i feel so lonely and unmotivated?

I'm fine in the holidays but the moment school starts, the depression sets in. My social life just shuts down almost completely and I get intensely withdrawn, stressed out and hostile. Problem is that I don't know what I'm so stressed about because I don't study that much but I just can't seem to cope with my work and maintaining friendships at the same time. I become socially disinterested and very negative. This affects my relationship(s) too (my ex back then and my current) because I get resentful when their social lives are so much better than mine. Help?

  • I think you very normal to feel overwhelmed, but it may be healthier to force yourself to do social things. I make an effort to do something social at least two times a week; if I didn't have so much studying to do, it would be more than that. I like being alone most of the time, but once I'm with my friends, I feel good again. Make a list of things that you could do to beat these school blues and start applying a few to your life.

  • Yes, I'd say you'd benefit from talking to a professional about this.

  • as bronte_91 said, confide in someone. Even better consider talking to a guidance counselor or a therapist. It helps to unload the burden on another trustworthy person.

  • I understand how you feel. I tend to feel easily overwhelmed as well and I usually focus so much on it that I to to withdraw and become depressed.

Perhaps you could try planning your days more. You know, have a sort of routine for yourself when you get home from school so you can spread your time as evenly as you can both socialising and studying. Maybe you could try taking part in some sort of co-curricular activity that you're interested in? If you don't know what you would enjoy just try a few things out and see.

I think the best piece of advice I can give is talk to someone. I problem shared is a problem halved :)
