Totally normal.
I believe a significant factor in the large number of people who are depressed is our separation from the natural world. I'm not saying it's the cause of depression, but being out in nature and connecting with the wider, natural world can interrupt the slide into that black hole, whereas sitting inside and focusing on our external problems and the negative crap swirling around in our heads can only pull us ever further down.
Of course it's normal and very healthy. I don't understand why you even need to ask!
Have a think about how long humans lived mostly outside except for fairly small shelters: that's more normal than being inside all the time.
Its like a natural anti depressant. I love being outside even tho its hot. I like to sweat without a shirt on while I do the lawn. Wish I could not have a job and just mow all day everyday.
The first job I had after dropping out of high school at 16 was working for a guy who mowed the (usually huge) lawns of the big houses in the suburbs of Seattle, as well as a few smaller places. Since it was the Pacific Northwest, the only sweating involved was due to the fact that I was wearing a rain suit a lot of the time.
I remember it as being incredibly tedious, but it suited me fine at that stage of my life. Once I'd mastered how to fling the big, self-propelled reel mower around, I could just go onto autopilot and walk and let my mind wander around whatever the hell it was I thought about way back then.
The pay was pretty shit, but I liked the guy I worked for and it was a good introduction to the adult world of work.
