Is it normal that i feel bad for religious people?

They'll never be able to actually search for the truth because they are taught to never critically evaluate their own faith. The reality is, we don't actually know and are unable to know at this point in time whether or not there actually is a god, so I feel bad for everyone who is not able to experience reality as it really is because of their own biases
Same goes for 'strong atheism' of course, but since all atheists I've met are more agnostic like myself I don't feel bad for 'strong atheists'... as they just don't really seem to exist. Maybe that's because many atheists consider critical thinking to be a vital part of their rejection of theism so they're definitely better off than those religious people who can't think critically at all.

Is It Normal?

  • Ignorance is bliss... just ask any Christian. I personally believe that religion was created to herd the masses like farm animals and control them in mind and body, nothing more.

Also a fun idea... say the Christians were right and only they get sent to heaven and you are one of them. Fast-forward 1000000 trillion eons! Can you imagine how crazy the human soul would get after that long? You would know all there is to know by far and would eventually grow bitter and the *Heaven* would be even worse than the *Hell* non-believers went to, at least they would have the pain of fire burning them constantly to keep their minds occupied so it wouldn't be as bad.

  • Personally, I have never understood
Religion and spirituality. When my Christian friends and I talk science, the conversation always shifts to how the world was created. When you see religious people and feel bad for them, DO NOT COMMENT

    Please
Keep your thoughts to yourself, it will save your reputation and friendships

  • This is a pretty condescending way to think. I'm an atheist, but I don't feel sorry for religious people unless there's something else going on. I get frustrated sometimes when religion leads people to do senseless things (or is used as an excuse for those things, at least). Sometimes I feel bad for people who are very old and really depending on heaven to make their lives better. That's not so much about their beliefs, though, as it is about the fact that they're going to die soon, and the fact that I don't think there is a heaven, so they won't ever get to be young again or see their dead friends.

  • Ok maybe some people are under duress to follow a religion/ideals however you can't lump everyone under the same umbrella.

I myself, have made the decision thru my own interpretation of what materials/information out there to be an atheist. The person next to me could interpret it differently and decide that there is an existence of a supreme being/s. There is no problem with it, the only problem arises is when one person/group decides to force others to follow something against their own wills.

  • It is quite the assumption that people of a faith were never "allowed" to evaluate their faith. Many people do much soul searching before deciding to convert to or switch to a faith. I am a Catholic because after leaving the church after high school and much soul searching in my early twenties, I realized that I truly believed its teachings and strongly believe in God.
Believe what you think is right but don't assume people have never chosen their own faith.

    • Werd. I became Christian quite amazingly near the end of my 20's after never having been around Christians at all in my life. My dad was an atheist.

  • Thank you for your pity... it's horrible that I will never experience life to the fullest and I am glad that someone, somewhere out there feels pity for my condition. I didn't choose my religion, I was born this way. It's genetic, people just don't understand...

  • DONT feel bad for them. because as an atheist myself I know them religious people have something I do not.
example is my mom, she completely believes in god and prays everyday and such. and shes also been through a lot- more than an average mother(by a lot I mean a lot >.< too long story) to raise me and my siblings. and the only thing that guided her? her belief and faith that god was with her helpin her.
this I find amazing because in fact she did all that in her own but the power of faith made her accomplish all that it's just fascinating.
as an atheist I think it's amazing how a religious person can put so much faith in smthing that might not even exist(god)

So BOTTOMLINE, dont feel bad for religious people. the power to have absolute faith in do called god is not an EASy thing to do. it makes them so HAPpy so no reason so feel bad for them
