I used to be the same way. People used to ask me all the time why i'd flinch when someone walks in my direction. It gets easier as you learn to be more confident.
I always felt the same way. It got a lot better for me when I started working a full time job and talking to people every single day. Since most of my job consists of talking to customers it forced me to come out of my shell and I became a lot more comfortable talking to people that way.
Is it normal that I feel awkward when someone comes closer to me?

Hi,
I've always been like this when growing up and I've always felt uneasy around people which is why I'm always awkward.
