This isn't entirely uncommon. It's this aspect of relating to a missing person that makes a lot of the people who help in search efforts do what they did, especially since she was not that far off from your age group (I read about her case a while back)
In this case, she was murdered so there's no searching going on, however, it's not uncommon to relate to murder victims as well, especially ones so innocent. This case is still of interest to the public so you can't be alone.
