Is it normal that i eat actual carpet?

I’ve always loved the smell of carpeting, but probably about two years ago the smell literally made my mouth water and I wanted to try it. At first I just got scissors and cut off off some of the top of the carpet and chewed on it, then spit it out. Now, it has escalated to actually pulling carpet out of the floor and eating it. Why do I have this urge? Are there health risks? I’ve tried to look it up but I haven’t found anyone else eating actual carpet. I’ve also found a lot of eating carpet jokes of course so please don’t make any in the comments lmao. I might have pics maybe? I’ve also had the urge to eat sand but that’s it. Thank you

  • Best way to break the habit is to go to the throw rug clinic. They’ll bring you down gradually, but you’ll need some counseling too. You can do it

Visit the rug doctor. He will help you get clean. As a bonus, your carpets will be too.

    Sounds like pica.
Aside from the fact you're EATING A CARPET, you're probably ingesting all sorts of dirt, bacteria and you've probably got a hairball developing.
    Try linoleum, it's fairly cheap.

Use your head. No, it's not normal and yes, there are health risks, as paramore93 explained.

  • i'm not a doctor or anything, but my friend is anemic and also gets non-food cravings like sand, dirt, cardboard, playdoh and things like that too. its a common side effect of being anemic. i think going to the doctor and getting bloodwork done would be eye opening. :)

(also please forgive my vote, i meant to press normal but my cat jumped on my keyboard haha)
