  • Fat or ugly (and maybe shy) people have faced adversity due to their external appearance and are therefore humbled by it.

Physically beautiful people are treated better due to the psychological heuristics everyone naturally applies to them - these pretty people have been catered to by society for their entire lives. Some are humbled due to other factors, but most have not--or at least not to the same extent a physically ugly person has.

That as it may, an ugly person can turn bitter and hateful if they are unable to accept their circumstances with resilience.

    • Heuristics... New word for me to work in
Do people trust someone who is flatulent and smells?

      • Excessive flatulence, and I really mean *excessive* foul smelling toots, is a natural sign that your diet is off (maybe you couldn't find quality food that week) or you have festering intestines.

So, they might trust you as a person, but... They might also be driven away because it smells like something is physically wrong with you.

A common heuristic is assigning positive attributes, like a fabulous personality or a higher intelligence, to someone only because they are extremely symmetrical; have features which align with our primally favoured version of physical beauty for either sex; and represent the ideal of good health.

We just automatically and subconsciously make these assumptions about others based on looks alone. But, only some people actually challenge these preferences and look beyond a beautiful exterior; these people know physical attractiveness doesn't guarantee a good person.
