Is it normal that I dont remember anything before age 10?

  • Not terribly normal, but I don't know that I would jump headfirst into the conclusion so many others are, that there was some horrific molestation or something that occurred. It sounds like there was trouble at home (your own comments about your sister's memories), so maybe you did block out large uncomfortable swaths of time. You can't even remember any birthdays or holidays when somebody is relating them to you?

    I'm sure it doesn't help, but I have almost no memory of most of middle school or college (no, I was not wasted the whole time). Neither were particularly fun times in my life. And I can't remember what I did last Tuesday, either.

    • No I can not remember anything. Not even good times. I vaguely remember places but not events :( I wish there were more answers. But my biggest guess is that I have mentally become concious to what I do not want to know and I guess sweep things under the rug as they say. Except now, somebodys vacuumed thay all up and I have no happenings to remember from 10, back.

      • I can understand why your brain would do that, and I can totally understand the distress that such a huge blank spot where you, according to convention, should have many innocent, happy memories, but- and I really don't want to sound callous here- but if it were really a bad enough period of your life that your brain would systematically cauterize years, would you even want to get those memories back?
