One idea that may help is to practice looking at the eyes of people on Television while they are talking. You can get used to it this way in a safe situation.

    What does uncompfortable mean?

... but seriously, I don't much care for people who can't be bothered to look me in the eye. Lack of eye contact can signify dishonesty, and it also looks like you aren't paying attention. It makes me feel uncomfortable and disconnected from the person, as if the person to whom I'm speaking is ignoring me or just doesn't give a shit about what I'm saying. I personally find it rude to not look someone in the eye.

I'm familiar with all the tried and true excuses about how a person may have social anxiety or some neurological disorder, regardless I find a lack of eye contact to rude and unpleasant. YUCK!

If I were looking to hire someone for a job and the two best candidates were almost entirely alike in skills and qualifications I would without a doubt choose the person who could look me in the eye. No, I don't want to deal with someone who's trying to stare me down like a wolf trying to establish dominance, but I don't wany the one who appears spineless and shifty either!

Don't make excuses for this behavior, try to change it instead.

You're just shy. Force yourself out of it until you get used to making eye contact. Start by looking at them between the eyes.

A lot of people have a hard time with this, but just give it a whirl. What's the worst that can happen?? Nothing, that's what.

I have autism and ADHD, and I really struggle to make eye contact. Eventually, I realised that if I look at the bridge of someone's nose, it works well. Get some autism books or get yourself tested for it

I have ADHD and that sounds a lot like me having trouble with eye contact. But if that's all you probably have mild ADD. I'm no doctor. Get it diagnosed if you want.
