Is it normal that i don't want to live to be old?

I'm 19 (going on 20 later this year) and don't want to live to be old. I don't want to possibly become blind, deaf, suffer from other problems and become completely helpless as I age. Living to be 60 something or beyond that does not sound appealing. I want to die in my 40s or 50s so I won't be that old. Is how I feel normal?

  • You don't know what you'd be missing. I'm 62, and am having the best time of my life. Grandkids, senior discounts, no worrying about getting ahead. Sure, there's health problems, but you deal with it.

  • I feel like that too, my granpa has alzheimer, and since i saw it when i was 14 i don't want to end like thzt. Plus unlike him, I don't have any family to care for me, so i would have to live in a retirement home.

  • I totally agree with you about not wanting to go through those horrible health ailments. The one that I'm worried about the most is my mind going, not being able to remember anything anymore, becoming, like you said, helpless. However, your 40s or 50s sounds a bit young to want to die. If you want to be dead at that age, then that means your life is already halfway over right now. I was thinking 60s or even early 70s. Plus, everyone is different. Some people are in great shape in old age, some aren't. You just don't know until it happens, which sucks.

  • A lot of the people who are ill in their 60`s & 70`s are that way because they didn`t take care of themselves when they were younger, bad habits like smoking & drinking & bad diets catch up with you at that age, Either that or bad genes. Without these factors, you can live a fairly good life in old age.

  • Actually most people experience a U of happiness in their lives. By that I mean that they are very happy early on and when they're old and miserable when they are middle aged. So if their happiness is plotted on a graph, it should look like a U.

All I'm saying is that old age is not as bad as you think. Old people typically do not care what others think anymore.

  • I feel the same way. With a family history of diabetes, arthritis, Alzheimer's, brain cancer, and heart disease, I do not want to live long enough to battle those diseases. I'd prefer to bow out early.

  • When I get older, I'd probrably want to do everything I wanted to do, then(after doing almost everything) die when I'm over 100 years old. That would be the best! ^¬^

  • I wish my younger years were twice as long. I wish I could live 21-28 twice, just to make the most of it. But I'd like to live be be a 100 one day.

  • I wish to go young and peacefully. Im 25 and the thought of going grey or wrinkling or spoting or discoloring or sagging is ewww to me. I told my gal i want to go before any of this happens. She told me she would miss me becaude we'd only be married for 10 yrs before this starts happening. But the good news is that God blessed us with youthful genes. We both look 18 even though im 25 and shes 23. Not only that but thats why God gave the world plastic surgeons and hair colir products.
    To stay beautiful. =)
