This man is completely manipulative and he enjoys every second. He's not sensitive, he's controlling. He controls you by making you feel guilty so you keep staying and putting up with him. He's manipulating your friends as you see already, don't assume he isn't manipulating you.
What makes you think he would want to change? He's getting what he wants. He doesn't want help, it's just another lie he's telling. Get away from him and his naive friends- and don't worry, his friends will see him for what he is eventually, which will clear your name after you've left.
