Is it normal that i don't want a smartphone?

20 year old guy here, never had a smartphone and don't want one. Now don't get the wrong idea, I'm not technologically inept. I certainly know how to use a smartphone. I've got a laptop and a PC and I can build websites, do all that good stuff. I just never had the desire for one and at this point I honestly don't want one. A flip phone with calling and texting is all I want/need.

As an extension of this, I never take "selfies", and I don't have an Instagram or Snapchat (I have a Facebook). Granted, I've always been a bit camera shy, but mostly I don't mind taking pictures with people if they ask. But on my own time, I literally never take selfies or anything of the sort. So I guess this is two questions in one.

Sometimes I feel like the only one who just doesn't want the distraction and wants to enjoy their surroundings, and waits until they get home to enjoy the internet and social media. Hopefully I can get some other insights here, thanks!

I'm amazed there aren't more people knocked down in city centres, or anywhere really wandering around staring at phone screens.

Owning a smartphone is fine as long as you can leave the damn thing in your pocket for more than 20 seconds or even at home every once in a while.

Smartphones are very convenient and useful, especially if you have a job that requires you to be able to check your email at any time. If you don't want one or need one for work then you don't have to get one though. They are way to expensive to buy if you probably wouldn't even end up using it.

It is normal, i see much people who are addicted to their smartphone. I hate it when im driving car that people are only watching to their smartphones and have to brake because they dont see me.

    Advantage: more battery life.

I think smart phones are very useful, but they do more of a disservice to people than anything. They are very distracting and they cause people to splice their attention spans. Eventually if we keep going at this rate, in 30 years everyone will be unable to focus on anything.

You're just not interested in taking photos or using the many other features of a smartphone. So what? Completely normal.

If all you want to do is call and text, a smartphone would be pointless ..
It is possible to have a smartphone without snapchatting everything you do and still enjoy the real world .. the majority of people our age are addicted to their smartphones and probably wouldn't look up if their house was on fire ..
Smartphones can be useful for some stuff, but they're definitely not a necessity ..
