I feel the same way about all of my immediate family. I stopped going home for holidays about half way through college and just stayed with friends that lived near campus and they didn't seem to notice not even a phone call to see if I was ok. My reasons are different from yours but with the same kind of outcome.
damn thats sad...
I think its important to be in touch with family though, just to be able to have that assurance that someone will be there for you no matter what.
But if you already have those kind of peopel through friends then, thats perfectly fine.
I hope you dont feel lonely without you family though. :)

You don't need to feel bad for me I'm happier and less lonely now than I was with them in my life.
