Many people only stay "close" to someone they don't really care about. It's easier for them to accept that they might one day lose that person. They don't want to get too close to someone they actually like out of fear of losing them forever or being disappointed by them. Most people with "one" friend aren't really close with that "friend".
The only reason they have that one friend at all is because they get too lonely and bored not to have some kind of human contact, even though they usually go away hating themselves for giving that friend another chance to be a good friend to them.
Is it normal that I don't like the only "friend" I have?
