I always wondered about the seemingly redundant question on applications, "are you hispanic or non-Hispanic?" followed by the race question. *Facepalm*
I did not. I missed my trip to Spain, thanks for rubbing it it my face! :'c
But seriously, I was going to say that I thought they were just pastier than other Latinos. But then I researched and found that Latino and Hispanic are used interchangeably, Italians are also white, and Mexicans are a mixture of races, namely native American + European (plus many other combinations). This is news to me, I always thought of Hispanic/Latino as a race.
Thank you, shootallniggers, for sparking my interest on the subject and leading me to the road of enlightenment.
Well I am kinda like Smucker's, with a name like ShootAllNiggers, I have to be good. But yea, what you are talking about are people who are the result of people from Spain and Portugal who mixed with the indigenous peoples of present Latin America. Because south of the border they integrated, while north of the border we just killed them all or forced them onto reservations. Good times, good times.
Watch some reruns of "I Love Lucy" with the volume turned down, if you aren't distracted by the accent, you will realize Desi Arnaz is white.
Actually I'm starting to realize how ridiculous it is to cram people under four categories of race when many don't identify under any of those labels, being genetically composed of a mixture of races. I may be showing a lack of knowledge here, but who even knows if indigenous people are a pure race? If it's true that everyone originated from Africa, would that make black Africans the only pure race? If even them because ancient people were nomadic and the continents shift...and isn't race nothing more than an adaptation to a peoples' settlement in relation to the equator?
is it normal that I don't like being white?
