Live your life in the way that makes you happy, but bear in mind that there may be aspects of friendship that are difficult to cultivate online. In particular, many friendships are nurtured by shared, real-life experiences, both positive and negative, the sense that one is in another's life.
Online, you will never help a friend move or look after their kids or let them teach you to drive a stick shift,or stay the night with them because they've suffered a loss and don't want to be alone -- you see what I mean.
And then of course, there's romantic relationships. Do you ever intend to have a relationship like that? With sex, let's say? That means meeting people in person, too.
One more thought: most people don't make friends by approaching strangers. Most people make friends through mutual activities like work or school or whatever. If you don't want real world friends, that's cool, but if you do, you might take your interests out in the world a bit. You like dogs? Why not volunteer at your local animal shelter? Then you can help real dogs, too and who knows, maybe meet some people you like.
