Is it normal that i don't feel empathy?

So basically I was really bored and went on omegle. To the question section. The question was something about psychological behavior and I brought up the fact that I can't feel legitimate empathy towards people who aren't close friends / family. In layman's terms, I can't bring myself to actually care about people and what they experience and their problems. Like children starving in africa; I agree that it is bad and should stop, but I don't actually care because it doesn't affect me. The other person said they'd never met someone like me and that I'm seriously fucked up.

    We're constantly bombarded with horrible things. Shootings, war, famine, floods, fires etc. How can we not become desensitized and want to tune everything out. Most shit we can't do anything about so why bother caring?

    That's hilarious. The whole world is like this. There are a rare few who actually give a shit but most of us can't be bothered.

    We only have the capacity to care about so many people otherwise it becomes to overwhelming or to much of a burden. It's not your responsibility to worry about what happens in Africa but it would be nice if we used the opportunities we are given to help the less fortunate.

    It's normal. Plenty of people lack empathy but they won't admit it. They choose to pretend they care while shaming other people who don't. lol

    Are you on some kind of mediciation? Antidepressive medicine (or anxiety-pills) definetely cause lack of empathy.
