Good for you, I suppose. It seems pretty weird that anyone would give you unsolicited advice on how to attract women, but their advice sounds all wrong. I don't get why someone would pretend to be someone else to impress anyone, that's a stupid thing to do. I'm not sure why it wouldn't be normal to do what you want. If you're happy now then keep going as you are.
