    I can only understand people getting upset with you for not acknowledging their birthdays if they acknowledge yours. It's common courtesy to say "happy birthday!" to someone on his birthday if he does the same for you on your birthday. If they don't acknowledge your birthday, however, I wouldn't worry about it.
