  • You clearly have an interest in food that's at least very close to an obsession. Your starvation diet during the week, your weekend binge-eating (which you view as a reward to yourself) and how you say that you work-out loads means I suspect you're talking crap when you when you say you're "slightly underweight". I'd be willing to bet a small sum that you're more malnourished than that. You've probably massaged the numbers for your height and weight and carefully chosen a table that allows you to believe that you're only just a little below the normal range, when in fact you're seriously underweight.

I have no idea what label an eating disorder specialist would apply to you, but your attitude towards food is definitely not healthy, and that usually indicates underlying psychological issues.

Leaving aside the huge question about why you feel compelled to abuse your body in this way, what you're doing is not healthy physically. You're stressing it with starvation-level nourishment combined with strenuous exertion for six days a week, and then stressing it in the opposite way by gorging on Saturday. If you're young and relatively healthy, you can get away with this abuse for a while, but humans did not evolve to cope with this sort of eating pattern. Sooner or later, something is probably going to break in a spectacular way that puts you in a hospital bed. If that doesn't happen, you may well find that you suffer chronic health issues as you get older due to the damage you're doing to your body now.

    • I’m 5’0 and 93lbs so I’m less than 5lbs underweight

      • You're correct that that weight at your height results in a BMI of 18.3; underweight, but not excessively so.

However, if you're working out so much that you have significantly more muscle mass than the average person, BMI is even less useful than it is for most people. Since muscle weighs significantly more than fat, professional athletes in peak physical condition with minimal body fat can have a BMI in the overweight range. Therefore, if you have a substantial amount of muscle, your very low BMI could indicate that you have an unhealthily low amount of body fat.

Since you're only five foot tall, I assume you're a woman. One indication of undernourishment and excessive physical stress in women is the absence of periods. If you don't have regular periods, you really should take a serious look at your dietary and exercise habits.

In any case, regardless of what your BMI is and what clinical measurements would show your body fat to be, the fact remains that you have a very unhealthy attitude towards food. Sooner or later, you're going to pay the price for this.

        • I do have regular periods and I’m in good health. I have tried diets where I eat more but eat healthy everyday and I’ve found that I really can’t stick to it and completely avoiding unhealthy food makes me miserable. That’s why I have a cheat day and then compensate by eating less throughout the week.
