One of my friends used to send me her papers to proofread while she was in college, and I was working odd hours at that time and couldn't always get to them in time, and told her this. Luckily, she was pretty understanding. It is normal to have other things going on and not be able to drop everything for someone else's work. To be honest, it is their responsibility to find help some other way if you're not available. Their homework and grades are not your responsibility and there are times where other things come first, and people need to understand this.
