Is it normal that i didn't attend my prom in high school?

I didn't care for renting a tux and being trapped at my school until 11:00 with nothing to do that I would enjoy. However, it is considered a part of the "High School Experience". A lot of shows and movies make it seem like prom some kind of milestone in your life. Is it normal that I decided not to go?

Yeah I skipped prom, by the sounds of it I didn't miss anything and saved a bunch of money.

Some people even skip graduation ceremonies. They have better things to do.

  • I didn't go to any proms (which were yearly) or to the graduation ceremony. I saved a ton of cash and time. I know I would have hated the experience of wasting money to be with a bunch of false people and to pretend I'm having fun while I'm not. I also don't spend time with my flatmates at all, while they're all partying and all that and they probably consider me a weirdo. Everytime I see a group of people having small talk I become incredibly bored and listening to them drains me of energy massively in a matter of seconds. I feel the need to go away and recover by doing something I enjoy. I don't regret my choices one bit.

I didn't go to mine either. I didn't feel like pissing away money to go to a place with bad music and activities I didn't care for. A lot of people who went said it was lame, so I didn't miss out.

Judging by your comments, you sure do seem like you're very intelligent yourself and you must lead a very important life. s/

I went to one yearly prom. It was oh hum okay. I didn't bother with the final year prom. Besides that I didn't have a gf in the final year leading up to the prom.

I never went. It's stupid and girly. Only people that like the Notebook care about prom.

Is it possible that you didn't go to your prom because you couldn't get a date?

It's normal, at least you had the chance to go to prom, just be happy for that you know

I've read that 53% of Americans didn't attend prom. So plenty of people didn't, and most didn't regret it.

I've heard lots of people say that if they don't sew their wild oats when they're young (such as partying, clubbing, sleeping around in their 20s), that they'll regret it.

I'm sure not everyone agrees with that and will give me a minus point for saying it, I'm just repeating what some people have said. I'm not even saying I necessarily agree.

There are a higher percentage of people who feel that they would regret not partying in college than whether they go to their high school prom or not.
