Is it normal that i cry when people i don't know die?

I'm 26 years old. Part of my daily routine is to check Facebook, and at my age, people from high school are getting married, having kids, getting fat, and DYING. Sometimes I'll go to someone's Facebook page, and someone in THEIR life has died. Recently, I went to a girl's page from high school. I never was friends with her, but we're from a small town so we knew one another regardless. I discovered that her younger brother had recently died from a terrible farming accident. I DID NOT know this guy. I just knew OF him. I knew his face and I remembered seeing him occasionally around the high school, at lunch, etc. Next thing I knew, I was googling his death, googling his father's career, learning about the new agricultural scholarship in his name, etc. I was saddened and I even cried when I was reading about it all. Keep in mind, I NEVER spoke a word to this young man NOR had I exchanged but a few sentences with his sister. Perhaps it's just a small town thing? Am I too sensitive and emotional? Or do you think I'm just a compassionate person?

It's kind of like reading a book and crying after the character died. Just knowing more about them makes you more emotional, I guess. I think it's normal.
