Here is the deal. Physically we either get older or we don't. I prefer getting older. Mental ageing is a different thing. I'm 73. I am fairly healthy, do my own yard work, my own repairs on the house and the cars. I'm not sure my mind is as agile as it was when I was younger, but I know a hell of lot more than I did when I was young, although I wish I had become as smart as I thought I was when I was twenty-five. On the other hand, my mind may be just as fast as it was, but it has to sort through all the data it has accumulated. I still play my cello, and do it fairly well. I would love to be able to give young cellists my experience that allows me to sight read a new piece of music and just play it without really thinking about it. I love the internet as it has opened so many vistas for me. I love life. I think the world is much more complex than it was when I was young, but in most respects it is a better world. Folks who long for the good old days, simply don't remember that the old days were not that good. Some of the young folk may want to push me on, but not without a fight, and I do come armed.
Is It Normal that I constantly get upset about getting old?
