Klondike is right, you just don't understand what he was saying but I do. He's saying it's wrong to turn a dog designed to work outdoors into a freaking lap dog!
People breed animals to fill our needs. Some dogs are breed to be lapdogs. Since somewhere someone got the idea it was a cute assessory. Why people often breed little dogs for the reason it is cute. Even though many small breed dogs have a lot of health issues and vomit constantly. Many of these bigger breeds live ok if you have a big yard and play with them and all dogs require an amount of training. Many of these larger breeds are also being used to work today for reasons such as finding drugs, finding people in disasters, attack and guard dogs. So they are working today. People getting a huge dog for a small apartment is not a smart idea. Most apartments let you bring big dogs either. So what is the issue there? Apartments often strongly discourage animals. Even if they do not say it. They make you pay a lot for them and generally dislike animals. If you have a pet you should have the time and energy to take care of it.
Not everyone lives in an apartment and many apartment complexes do allow large dogs. Also, people who have their own homes often have large outside dogs that they force to live indoors. No dog belongs indoors, but forcing a large dog to live indoors is animal cruelty.
Why would you force your animal to stay in when you could keep them outside? From my experiences most people leave them outside. They let the dogs come in sometimes because the animals sometimes want to. I have never witnessed this kind of thing and in all the places I have live it is not at all common. People generally let the dog in sometimes and leave them out most of the time or keep them as only outside dogs. With cat it tends to vary from outside to inside cats. Dogs piss and shit on the carpet and they chew on furniture and cloth. So what makes you think that people actually want them inside? People who do this are not very common and not very wise pet owners. Yes we have unwise pet owners. Are you going to say since a few did bad that we all did? Some people shoot up animals with drugs but that does not mean everyone owning a pet will. I also believe a large percentage of pet animals actually take care of the animals they have. Not a lot of advantages to keeping dogs inside. Have you ever owned a dog? Did you want it peeing on the carpet?
"From my experiences most people leave them outside."
Then you don't have much experience. There are hundreds of thousands of dog-owners in large cities such as NYC, who live in apartments, including highrise apartments. How the heck do you think they keep their freaking dogs outside? The only time most dogs that belong to people who live in apartments see the outdoors is when they are taken on short walks twice a day, and some don't even have that. Many people put down newspaper for them to pee and crap on so that they don't have to walk them. You are REALLY naive!

Its a miracle!
You are really naive if you can not walk down the street and notice it. You named one city. Now what about all the other places with animals. They have a lot more room. New york also has a lot of crime so are you going to say all places in this world have high crime rates? That is not actually true. Not everywhere is city they do have suburb and rural areas you have a lot of wide open space. Yes I am sure with all the vacant space no one has any room for a dog. Fantastic observational skills. They also have country areas with a lot of meadow and grass. Not everywhere in the world is city.
Is it normal that I consider my dog to be my daughter?
