The e-cigarette has been shown to cause pneumonia. It is basically water vapor going straight into your lungs.
I think that the absolute best alternative here is to just quit smoking. Period. I quit and honestly, I feel better now than I did all 5 of the years that I DID smoke.
Yes, I understand that it soothes you when you are stressed, I did it for the same reason but despite my stress, I still feels loads better and I feel overall more emotionally healthy than I did when I depended on cigarettes to help me through my day.
I would say that comparatively, the e-cigarette is better but don't substitute cigarettes for the e-cigarette if you're trying to quit. If not, good luck, just make sure you do regular doctor visits and see one at the first sign of trouble.
