Is it normal that i choke/grab my neck when i feel stressed?

I get very stressed and is wafted by anxiety often, mostly because of my OCD. Recently I tend to find myself grabbing or even choking my neck when I get overly stressed or anxious. It's not so aggressive that I can't breathe. I just give myself a choked or constricted sensation. It somehow makes me feel better. Is this normal?

Yeah, I would find a different outlet if poss.

Not that my reaction is exactly healthy: I tend to grind my teeth a lot.

Bizarrely enough I do the exact same thing under a lot of stress. Usually I just redirect my attention to something else. For me it’s usually vaping, but hopefully you have something healthier lol

this is self harm. you should get some type of stress toy instead, like a stress ball or a chewing necklace, and have some type of reminder that tells you not to grab your neck anymore, like a sticky note on your hand so that when you go to grab your neck you’ll remember not to.

maybe this has something to do with slowing your heart rate? idk if that's how it works, but i know when i get anxious my hearts speeds up, but if hold my breath or breathe slower is helps. maybe by cutting off the oxygen a little bit you force yourself to breathe slower and calm down a little, idk
