Is it normal that i chew on toilet paper and spit out spitballs?

I chew toilet paper and spit out the spitballs. There are piles of them in my bedroom trashcan. I don't know why. I don't get the same feeling with gum or other normal things to chew. I doubt it helps but the feeling I get is the same feeling I get when I smell the chemical smell from air conditioners. I assume it's the coolant or whatever but I get a weird but good feeling from it that's similar to when I chew spitballs. My family thinks it's disgusting so I'm wondering, is it normal?

  • Hopefully it’s used toilet paper, otherwise it’s just a waste.

  • Well done on actually making me want to vomit... Imagining chewing paper... Man, that's just nasty!

  • I do this when I feel ill. The toilet paper catches the phlegm and when I spit it out I feel better afterwards. It's one of my quirks.

Whether it's normal or not is a different question, and I don't think it's a common thing, but you're not the only person in the world who chews toilet paper.

  • Sounds like maybe an understimulation thing, not boredom perse but lacking adequate sensory input and trying to make up for it, at least it was this way for me. Liken it to how people twiddle their thumbs, bite their nails, or need background noise to concentrate on a something, it isn’t that unusual. I used to do this with toilet paper too, except I’d suck instead of chew. For years I’d also tear the corners off papers while I was at school, suck on them, then stick the balls to the underside of my desk.

  • Not if you have already wiped your arse with it
