Yes it is normal, and whoever says what you are doing is wrong or I would never doo it are complete utter hypocrits. I'm sorry but it is true. We do it beause, regardless of how trusting we are of our partner we still have the back And curiosity to check their phone. ESPECIALLY of they have done something to break that trust, therefore what you are dong is more of a defence mechanism, you look at his phone to reassure yourself that trust. So yes it's normal.
But I do think you should talk to him because it's not fair on you and not healthy, it's messing with your emotional feelings and that really destroyes you. So talk to him and see what he says, but honestly, if you truly suspect that his cheating than leave him. I know it will be hard but you need to look out for you this time, when he cheated he was looking out for him, he becMe selfish and now you're paying for that consequence.
Take back your pride, be a strong woman and sure as hell don't need his ass to make you feel great. You deserve someone much better
