Is it normal that i can't stand people smiling?

I just can't, like if you have something to be happy about, then why show it on your face? I'm really happy that people wear masks now because now I don't have to see it when the smile, but I still hear it? Like you know when people talk differently when they smile and they are happy? Just like, to me, and I'm not trying to be a lard here, I'm genuinely trying to communicate my distaste for smiling, if you're happy then why do I gotta know? Ya know> The public display of happiness from others has always struck me as odd and almost like bragging. Do you know how many muscles are required to force your lips into a smile? like is the energy projection worth it? You know how much ATP that uses up just to flaunt your lips? This might just be me but yeah. Cant stand happiness

  • Hey dawg. Mindlessly happy people be laughing at you. You need to take a dump. Hahahaha.

  • Fun fact: being angry takes a lot more energy than being happy, so you’re wasting a lot more energy being bothered by this than they are by smiling.

  • Smiling should definitely be regulated.

  • Smiling is a natural reaction for most people, same with laughing. They are not trying to brag, show off, or virtue signal their happiness. It is just a side effect of that happiness.

As for people who smile out of politeness, that is just cultural and societal, and it is considered very cold and unusual not to smile upon meeting or greeting someone (at least in the US where I am from). People who smile in pictures do so because it is often more flattering than a serious face, and most people want to look like they are enjoying life in their photos rather than resembling a mugshot.

Why does "public display of happiness" bother you so much? Are you unhappy and therefore don't like seeing others happy? What about happiness bothers you?

  • You are far too invested in the facial expressions of random strangers around you. Perhaps you need a more fullfilling job, or a new hobby.
