Music may not be your "thing." Some people can't connect to literature and feel passion for it in the same way as you, so consider yourself lucky in that sense.
You can't really force yourself to love something. However, I find that appreciating lyrics isn't that different from reading poetry - it's just that with the music, there's an added dimension.
Liking the way a piece of music sounds to your ears and dancing to it is actually a very pure appreciation of it. It's a bit like how a kid can get engrossed in a book without trying to analyse the author's intention and so on. He or she just reads it with an innocent mind and enjoys it!
