Is it normal that i can't make friends?

I transferred a year and a half ago to a large public university from the small private college I attended for two years. Since then I feel like I haven't made a single friend. I try to be friendly and a good listener without seeming desperate, but it seems like even if I initially hit it off with someone it doesn't go anywhere. I've never been this lonely before. It's starting to make me wonder if there's something wrong with me and it's been hard to keep my spirits up. Is there anyone else who has had this experience? Does this seem normal?

  • Thank you everyone who replied (well except maybe Heh? - I'm not sure that's something I'd like to try lol) It makes me feel a little better and I guess I should just keep putting myself out there. =)

  • Friends are overrated

  • Maybe the people you meet don't have the same interests as you? Why don't you try taking some fun extra classes, or joining some kind of group? (Ex: art classes, a writers group, etc) It's a good way to meet people who enjoy the stuff you like.

  • I have the same problem. I happen to move around a lot, and never really make friends. Maybe it's just your personality, or maybe it's the way you look. No offence meant by those, either.
I mean, I never make friends because I have glasses and a helix piercing and because I'm generally an odd, nerdy person. But loads of people have trouble making friends, so I'd label it normal.

  • Try joining a club.

There should be information on clubs on bulletin boards around your college. They often have nice events, like trips to sci-fi conventions, where you can hang out and get molested by Klingons and/or furries.

  • Mando's right: keep trying.
There's probably a lot of people going through the same thing as you there, have patience.
