Often those I try to help end up going against me, and if I leave then it would leave me in a less preferrable situation.
It's a crying shame, but it feels normal to me.
I've been speaking with a counselor about this actually. If his advice is going to work for me I think it'll help you too, so I suggest we try just talking more, asking about the potential friend's life and background and sharing a bit about ourselves, developing trust. You'll meet a few jerks, but ignore those people and move on.
Having a close friend is hard to find but their worth it in the end it just takes time. Dont give up.
