Go do a search on the difference between good eye contact, and staring too much into people's eyes on Google, and or YouTube.
It's kinda hard for me to explain, because for a lot of people it's just sort of natural. I used to look down at the floor a lot when I was a kid, because I was shy I guess. Somewhere along the line I was told that I needed to look people in the eye when I was talking to them, and I guess I got the hang of it so now it's just become second nature.
I do vaguely remember looking at the spot right between a person's eyes when I was first trying to get the hang of it.
Its normal for some, you may want to check your thyroid levels, many people with high thyroid has more need for privacy and alone-time and staring into peoples eyes can feel like a privacy violation.
Dont let anyone diagnose you with social anxiety, as thats just a symptom of real sicknesses. Getting medicated for social anxiety is like eating painkillers to treat a broken leg or heartattack. You need to treat the cause, not the symptoms, anxiety meds will destroy you but betablockers will probably take care of the worst symptoms without any damage to your psyche or other bad sideeffects.
Maybe you're suffering from social anxiety. It's a common sign for someone with social anxiety. I am like you OP but only with strangers I don't know or just met. I can get panic as hell when I talk while looking at them in the eyes as if they're local Medusas due to the feeling of insecurity and fear of being judged . Never happened with family and friends though.
