I'd suggest taking green_boogers' advice, or going to see a doctor about it, if you can.
In terms of a temporary, practical solution, doing the following may help:
- Inhale slowly through your nose for five seconds, then hold your breath for ~10 seconds
- While you're holding your breath, think "NO" very clearly (if you can) or say it aloud, if need be
- Now, exhale through your mouth for seven seconds
It's similar to the method that works to calm the initial stages of a panic attack (I think?) and it works for me, so it may work for you. If not, no harm done.
Sorry, but the more I try to forget the harder it is to shake it off. And I don't need the exercise, because the thought dies when I move on to something else.
Is it normal that I can't control my thoughts?
