Is it normal that I can only ever go to sleep after I have masturbated?

  • Your question makes it sound like you lay in bed unable to get to sleep until the early hours of the morning because you don't allow yourself to masturbate for some reason.

Orgasms at any time of the day have been proven to be beneficial to health in various ways for both men and women, and an orgasm is a great way to relax at the end of the day. Not only does it release a lot of happy-hormones, focusing on erotic thoughts can shift you away from thinking about anything that might have been preoccupying you and preventing you from getting to sleep.

Until I was in my fifties, if I was sleeping alone my normal routine was to masturbate last thing at night and immediately after I woke in the morning. It did me no harm at all, and medical research suggests that's probably part of the reason why I have no problems with my prostate now that I'm in my mid-sixties.

Getting a good night's sleep is important in many ways. If an orgasm helps you to do that, then I suggest you just get on with getting yourself off as soon as you go to bed.
