I'm not going to comment of the cheating part because I think that was your decision and it's not my place to judge. What I can say is that there's nothing wrong with falling in love with someone else, you may have found you liked you girlfriend but in fact didn't love her that much, possibly because of the nature of your relationship or some details of her personality. The other girl captivated you more, and you found you liked her more. There's nothing wrong with that.
I think you did the right thing by breaking up with your girlfriend. If you felt something for someone else, the right thing was to set her (and yourself) free, otherwise you'd be stuck in a relationship where you'd know you didn't love her that much after all and you would both have been miserable.
BTW, that was more that enough reason to end the relationship. It was the most logical thing to do.
