Totally normal. I can run the base total in my head so I'm usually within a dollar or so for the final checkout; but I do access the calculator feature on my phone from time to time to figure how many cans or packages of something I can afford.
My rule is that I only spend the amount of cash in my pocket unless it's an emergency, internet purchase, gas for the car, a major preplanned purchase on credit, etc.
