Is it normal that I believe in God but hate organised religion?

  • I think when most people say they hate religion but love God miss the point of religion. Dogma and doctrine have become dirty words but in reality are very beautiful things. A doctrine can be seen as similar to a scientific law where no matter how much you hate gravity and dislike it you can do nothing about it. Gravity just is there is no arguing. This is dogma, for example a dogma could be there is a God. You wouldn't dispute that. Dogma gives us foundation and church is a foundation for you to grow upon with others. In community we become closer to God. You can come to God alone but for the average person it is hard and you become lacking in your faith.

I will give you this that people with religion do bad things but religion in it of itself does not. Quote a passage in any holy book that orders its priests to steal from the church coffers and to lie and cheat. Don't hold your breath on it, religion brings many things to the table and labeling religion as the problem and not the people is not only ignorant but also illogical. If a distant family member of yours was a militant racist would I be right in assuming you were too? Absolutely not we forget that people are individuals and do what they do.

I will pray for you friend, I hope you will come around to religion.
