Is it normal that i believe everyone should know atleast 2 languages?

I believe that being bilingual/multilingual is a great thing and everyone should know 2 languages or learn a 2nd one. It's even better if people know 3 or more languages. I plan on learning French and I might learn more :). What about you? Do you know 2 or more languages and do you plan on learning more? Which ones?

I'm terrible at languages. I wish I could learn them easily but I can't so .. fuck them.

(I am multilingual ... but it was hard as fuck.)

I took 2 years of French and what a useless waste of time. After all that world travel I've done I've yet to be anywhere that speaks French besides Quebec and Louisiana.

I know far more Spanish from hanging around with Hispanic folks and going to Spanish speaking countries.

Seriously, French? WTF was I thinking?

yes learning multiple languages can help communicating with more and more people very easily, specially if you go to different places.. even I love knowing other languages and right now I know about three languages, I also plan to learn other languages but its confused while choosing and the opportunities are also very less.

I took IB Spanish for two years in high school and earned university credit for excelling in the exam, even though I half-assed it out of boredom. Nowadays I'm studying Portuguese. If you've mastered Spanish, then I recommend Portuguese. The grammar portion falls quickly; you only have to worry about memorizing a lot of vocabulary. I also want to study German and Japanese in the future.

Took 4 yrs of Spanish in high school, 3 yrs of French in middle school (forget most of French but would like to learn it eventually bc it is very important) & been trying to learn german since I was a kid bc my dads side of Family is Austrian, also studying Russian, eventually would like to study Chinese. I love learning other languages

I agree. It pisses me off that people don't teach their children a second language when they're growing up, because anyone can do it, and it's such a waste that we're not.

Oh, and I'm studying German at Uni, along with beginners Russian. Fun!:D

I agree. Especially if you're not from an English-speaking country, since knowing English is a must.

I speak two languages - Lithuanian (my native) and English. I studied German at school for two years, but I barely remember anything. So it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to continue with German. Although I'd like to learn Finnish before that. Besides those, I'd also like to learn Estonian, Latvian, Japanese and the Old Prussian, which I heard is being revived.

I took two years of high school German, a couple of semesters in college and one semester of college Spanish. I'd like to learn those two as well as French, Italian and Latin.

Is rossetta stone all the hype? Or just an over advertise product?

I heard rossetta stone can help but isn't the best choice (and can't make you fluent in whatever language you want to learn, like the commercials try to portray). I used to know of this one language learning program that had great reviews but I can't think of the name. Damn.
