Is it normal that i believe character matters and personality doesn’t?

If you think about people in the past, like 50 years ago, most of them did not marry because of how cool or “stand out” the other person was, but simply due to kindness and honesty.

The divorce rate was very low even though it was just as easy to get one, despite what the liberals say, it was not a misogynistic society.

Today, 40% of children live with a single parent and 70% of young people never attended church in the past year. All the focus is personality, personality, how funny, chill my partner is. And they wonder why nobody marries because being funny doesn’t pay the bills and riding a skateboard doesn’t teach you about sacrifices in a relationship.

Luckily, Alabama and Mississippi still retain those precious moral values.

Are not personality and character synonyms?

    • They’re not. At least in context of morality.

People didn't divorce then because they would get looked down upon in society. And the marriages weren't necessarily better, they had affairs just like unhappily married people tend to nowadays.

I agree. I think the only thing that should really matter is how kind and good someone is, anything else is just a bonus.

Although I do disagree with you when you say that just because divorce was legal, it wasn't a misogynistic society 50 years ago. I also disagree with you when you imply that not going to church is a bad thing. Also from what I've heard Alabama and Mississippi are quite immoral in other ways, like homophobia and racism (no offence).

Yeah, Let's not hook up with fun people and do drugs, we should all marry fundimentalists who are obsessed with reproduction and marriage as the endgame to life. You must be fun to go to raves with there Jebediah.

Are you the OP? If not yall should hang out. How am I supposed to react to someone going on about how we should all marry responsible people who we aren't attracted to for the purpose of raising kids and going to church?

Nah I’m not OP, but I agree if you’re going to be a couple that raises children you need to be responsible. I don’t know shit about church, op seems a bit of a tightass but they aren’t dangerous.

If you don’t have kids I don’t care what you do, but doing hard drugs is stupid.

It supports a horrendously vicious and predatory system as to how those hard drugs get around. It’s an industry that’s selfish to support.
You should care about who you harm

People grow their own shrooms. Buying anything from wal-mart supports a vicious and predatory system. What's the difference.

People who are tight-asses who only think about marriage, reproduction, and work are dedicating their lives to supporting a vicious and predatory monetary system that's enslaving humanity. Your average free person is as "free" as a free range chicken, all owed to the dullards that want to live boring responsible leave-it-to-beaver lives because they aren't creative enough to think outside what they were taught.

When I talk about hard drugs that shouldn’t be supported I mean cartel and mafia peddled drugs. I should’ve been more clear, sorry. Also I don’t have Walmart around me.

Dedicating your life to family and work has nothing to do with the system. Work doesn’t mean corporate work. I live in Siberia, my parents were hardcore Reds and I share a lot of Soviet based morals.

Being a hard worker doesn’t mean you’re a capitalist or a bootlicker, it’s being a progressive and supporting member of your community. I work to support my neighbors and share the pressure of my countrymen, not to shine the pedestal of a power mongering oligarch.

  • I understand your concerns but I just take issue wit one point. A person doesn't need to be a church-goer to be moral. The Bible is probably the most immoral book of all time (it supports slavery, misogyny, stoning disobedient children, killing entire cities of people-all in the name of 'god'). It has been said that if a person were to follow the biblical teachings today they would probably be arrested. That's why I am a proud atheist. The evangelist on TV are all money grubbing creeps and 'god', if he existed, would probably the most despicable character in all of mythology.

A good personality and strong character usually go hand in hand. Someone with loose morals usually has a shitty personality.

    • That depends. Someone could have an easygoing personality but support abortion. I can’t date someone who thinks it’s ok to murder a baby. It’s against the Bible.

Seems like you should move to Alabama or Mississippi then. Don't think most of those small towners are too fond of outsiders though, especially ones with nothing interesting to say.

By the way, abortion is only such an issue because talking about it is a politically divisive tactic. Gay marriage and immigration are the same, it's not about the actual issue it's about dividing people into 2 seperate groups that don't get along. You're being played by the system youre worshipping.

If your car is facing a cliff, you don’t have to floor it just because you have a gas pedal.

I think it's time for you to accept the fact that the social graces of yesteryear are a distant memory. I'm a firm believer of living my own life the best way I know how, and not giving a damn what others do with theirs. All I can do is keep good company around me and leave the dregs of society to flounder in their personal mud puddles of perpetual self-destruction.
