Yeah...this is pretty common. Don't act on these feelings as god forbid this guy is dumb enough to be interested in the idea...it could get him fired.
People tend to fall for those in charge....and those that teach us. The guy has a successful career, he's smart...and is passionate....so its easy to see why you've got a crush on him. However...there are plenty of guys closer to your age that are are passionate and work hard. Sure they may not be successful yet....but you can see someone who is driven a mile away. I really don't think showing interest in your professor is a good idea...since it is heavily frowned upon in schools.
