You guessed right about me having not been used to it. I have always lived in (moderately) quiet places. Country type places. I am more used to it now than I was when I first got here, but I think I'll like it when I finally get away too. Sorry I made you remember how much you miss it :P
I don't know. I never saw it as a bad thing. The trains were part of life. Part of my landscape as both a kid and an adult. When I was on the train itself, seeing my house from the train was always exciting. I don't know why.
I could never get used to quietness (it spooks me out) so maybe you'll never get used to noise. Luckily for me, where I live now is like a 24/7 civil riot. No trains, though. Just police helicopters. :/
