Butterflies are totally harmless. They do not and cannot bite. They have a very long skinny tongue they use to get nectar from flowers. A lot of people have phobias about something. The best idea is desensitizing. Have someone that understands start with very small moths and work your way up.
I was scared of a lot of bugs (but not butterflies) for most of my life. That was until I moved out to a hot, grasshopper filled country area. You're right about desensitization.

Agreed. The buggers fly in your face.
Are you forgetting about the venomous ones with fangs that stowed away in a shipment of bananas and are now spreading across the globe?
