Damn, that sounds like my family!
It comes to a point where you help you mom out as much as you can, but at the end of the day, she is an adult. You cannot stop her from drinking unless she wants too, and you can't make her decisions for her.
I am very sorry to hear you have this problem, as my mother was doing intense research at one of the most prestigious facilities in the world, and snapped. Since then she has drank herself into unemployment, and dire health issues. It is hard to watch somebody you love methodically destroy themselves, but the only thing that I have found to do about it is be there to pick her up every time she hits rock bottom. Other then that you will feel powerless to help most of the time. Just remember, even when you are there for her, don't let her drag you down too, keep her and your life separate and balanced.
