Well, it has been well over a year since I created this thread and much has changed in my life. I now have a 2-month old son, and have moved from Connecticut to California.
I have tempered my drinking to some extent, but still drink more than most. I am in treatment with a physician and a psychiatrist for issues they believe contribute to my situation. So far, I can't really tell if it's helping or not.
The mother of my son (still back in Bridgeport) has certain conditions for contact with him going forward, so I now know that I will need to moderate my lifestyle substantially from here on out to keep that relationship workable.
That being said, she is also receiving about $6,000/month at my discretion, and that is my leverage. Per state law, I am responsible for the child, not for her. She gave the boy my last name, so obviously the woman is not stupid.
I would love to be able to claim that this child was the result of a meaningful relationship, but he wasn't. It was a short meaningless fling. I was careless. She is a young woman of 24 years and I am approaching middle age (I'll be 39 in March).
We did produce a beautiful child, if nothing else. And yes, I did have a paternity test done. Twice.
So, this is a new twist in the weird saga of my life. I never thought I would have a child, nor did I ever want one. But now that I do, he's all I think about.
It's 6:24PM Pacific on 19 November 2012... I'm 2/3rds the way through a bottle of Stoli. La Jolla, CA...
