It's common. I get this in the bathtub, and I think I know the reason why.
These days, people spend far less time alone than they used to. The times that they are alone, they're usually accompanied by some form of distraction, whether it's a computer, television, music or what have you. Technology has its advantages, but this is one of the downsides: when you're always engaged in something, you rarely have time to just sit and think. Or as in your case, shit and think.
My hypothesis is that when you're in the bathroom, there's not much to distract you, therefore you pay attention to your ideas and become motivated.
