I believe almost all young teen boys (and possibly girls) become infatuated with a celebrity or two. They are the first mature women he can see in various roles and identities, therefore the first he can actually imagine as a sexual partner, especially when surrounded by little girls his own age.
However, most grow out of it fairly quickly, realizing that their image of this woman is completely imaginary and unrealistic.
By 16, he should no longer be infatuated by these larger than life women, and be more interested the real girls around him. It is just plain unhealthy to desire unattainable perfection, for there just is no such thing as perfection in the real world.
