to clear things up, I think if in theory everyone were to eventually become vegan that would happen gradually and the population of farmed animals would decrease concurrently. It's economics 101, supply and demand. of course this is all hypothetical bc it's unlikely he entire human race will ever be vegan :) I assure you I don't live in a fantasy land! Nor do I own any pet chickens...just providing you with a secondary purpose to maintain that species and not let it go entirely extinct.

And I know they can be used to ride but that's not actually a viable form of transportation in most parts of the world, they're just kept as pets

Also they don't need a purpose accept in reality these livestock animals have been altered from what they were in nature and there is no place for them in the wild any longer because they never existed there. Still not sure your point....99.9% of horses are kept as pets, that includes those used to race for the most part by the way, ask anyone who owns a racing horse, it's their hobby, not their business. I guess if it makes you happy people can think of some uses for cows and pigs and chickens, if that's what you need for your weird fantasyland where all animals must have functional purposes.
